Funny you should mention this. Almost e
very pic with this lens ends up under exposed. I could be wrong and I’m still trying to get my head around it
, but I suspect it’s due to just having a 180
°
viewing angle
. Every pic has that much more in it
and is therefore
more
dynamic
when it comes to lighting conditions. Gonna take some getting used to. Does this sound logical to you?

What are you using this 7mm on? I have a 14mm and it took some getting used to but it's always easier to bring shadows back the bringing back a blown out highlight.

What’s the wagon? I don’t recognise that at all

It’s a crop sensor whic h gives the equivalent of a 10 mm. If this is the case I have to wonder why my Fuji says exposure is dead on. You’d think the camera would be able to deal with it and find a better middle ground, but maybe not. ¯\_()_/¯

It’s a Mark II Blit. Didn’t check the transmission. Unsure about the trim level but maybe those skirts indicate a 2.5iR-V
. If that’s the case it would be AWD with a 276hp 1JZ.

I think it’s more a matter of the camera metering for the bright sky instead of the darker subject. Not sure if there are any settings you could change, but it’s easier to take the photo out of the camera and run it through photoshop or something that will lighten the shadows. Thing is, in a shot like this, if you metered for the darker shaded areas, you’d have a white sky. The camera is trying to compensate, but it can only do so much. Our eyes are much better at handling the difference between light and dark than the camera is. Our brain can process it, but the camera has to pick one or the other.

With digital cameras, particularly those with
modern backlit
CMOS
sensors
, you meter for highlights and recover shadows in post. This is the opposite of film, where you meter for shadows and recover highlights in post.

Maybe I will start shooting RAW (
with this lens)
. :-)x

As I mentioned to ttyymmnn, I might start shooting RAW with this one.

Shoot in raw and fix your photos after. I wouldn’t want the camera to make decisions on what to get right. The dynamic range is huge on modern camer as so this is really quick to fix in post or just set it to a stop over exposed if you don’t want to do any editing and deal with slightly more blown out area...
